SAR Steam was created as an online resource in December 2001, primarily for SAR Steam drawings and archives. Since the South African Railways (SAR) became defunct in the late '80's early '90's, I was able to source what was left in terms of drawings and reference, pertaining mainly to South Africa Steam locomotives. This came at great personal cost to me, but I am happy to report that it was really worth it in the end. The Transnet Heritage Foundation, as far as I know, does not exist anymore. Where has all the treasures of information gone to???
I have supplied drawings and e-books to many people around the world with the goal of keeping steam alive. It is quite shocking to see how many of the wonderful machines have fallen prey to the cutting torch and there is nobody in government really seems to care. It forms a large part of our heritage here in South Africa (once considered at the final outpost for steam). What does make me happy is to still see the enthusiasm coming through in terms of live steam.
I would like to thank Leith Paxton, co-author of "Locomotives of the South African Railways" for allowing me to use his very rare photographs. Please respect his copyright and do not use these images for commercial purposes. If you would like to use them, do not hesitate to contact me and I will contact Leith requesting permission.
Thank you for visiting my site and I really hope that you gain some use from the content.
